Online Tournament

The NLSDU is hosting our first online tournament!

On April 3rd and 4th join the NLSDU for an online debate tournament to ease the troubles of social distancing!

Tournament will run Friday April 3rd from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Saturday April 4th from 10:30am-5:00pm.

There will be a trial round on Friday night to work things out, as well as three rounds and a finals on Saturday! Join us from the comfort of your own home since you can't really be anywhere else! Although this is a "tournament" it is mostly about having a bit of fun and continuing during these crazy time.

  1. Students will need access to a phone or computer in order to join the debate.
  2. Debaters can participate by audio only if need be but we encourage the use of video as well.
  3. We recommend the use of headphones to improve quality.

How this will work?

We will send out an email on Friday that links the General Assembly (GA), a Google Doc that only you and your partner can edit, and a HUB document linking any resources you might want and that links different rooms of the tournament. All rooms will be a video/voice call. You do not need to create any accounts to participate and we will be using Google Meet.

Motions will be uploaded to the hub document and announced in the GA. Teams will then be given time to prepare their cases before joining the appropriate rooms. We are unable to provide video calls between partners, so teams are asked to use their Google Document to either prep for the round or to exchange information.

During the debate rounds speaking time will be 5 minutes for constructive speeches with POI's being signalled by saying "Point of Interest" or "On that Point" as opposed to the regular standing up.

Shockingly, we will be unable to provide lunch or snacks.

This is an example of what the HUB document will look like
